GREEDY SENATOR NWAOBOSHI FORCES OKOWA TO APPOINT HIS DUMMY AS COMMISSIONER

Delta State Governor Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is set to announce Patrick Ukah as the next commissioner from Delta Oshimili North Local Government Area. Ukah from Okpanam is the former President of Hockey Federation of Nigeria. Xclusive Magazine gathered from a very reliable political insider that Ukah’s appointment is already a done deal and that barring any last minute delay Governor Okowa will submit his name to the State House of Assembly for approval this week or early next week.
Xclusive Magazine also gathered on very credible authority that Governor Okowa has settled for Mr Ukah against his will. Although the Governor is firmly in support of having someone from the North North axis of Delta Oshimili North Local Govt Area to produce the next commissioner, he was actually pushing for Andrew Egwunyenga of Atuma, a professor of parasitology at Delta State polytechnic Ogwashi Uku.
Okowa was, however, prevailed upon on one side by the Idumeje-Ugboko born Gabriel Ogbechie, the owner of Rain Oil who donated N50m to Okowa for his gubernatorial ambition, and a very close friend of Mr Ukah. And on the other side was Barrister Peter Nwaoboshi, who has a major say on who should be the commissioner from Oshimili North as a sitting Senator from the Local Govt, insisting that it should be Mr Ukah or no one else.
A source very close to Nwaoboshi told Xclusive Magazine on condition of anonymity that Nwaoboshi wanted Ukah at all cost to compensate him for his “back stabbing” nature. The source explained that prior to the national assembly elections, some persons in the local govt including but not limited to Dr Austin Obidi and Emeka Nmadu held series of meetings with Ukah on how to support Rt Hon Victor Ochei against Nwaoboshi, but when it dawned on Ukah that Nwaoboshi was likely to win the election, he quickly jumped ship and declared loyalty to Nwaoboshi.
“Cross-carpeting happens all the time in politics so it is often not seen as anything extra-ordinary. But in Ukah’s case, he didn’t stop at just jumping ship, he went further to back-stab his former colleagues by singing to Nwaoboshi all that have transpired in their meetings like a canary,” said our source.
Although a very good friend of Mr Ukah describes him as a marketer, sports administrator, a politician and great guy, in general fellow politicians see the former President of Hockey Federation of Nigeria as a two-faced politician who is not known for loyalty; someone who will dine with the devil today if it guarantees his political survival tomorrow.
The appointment of Mr Ukah, when finally announced, will put paid to the ongoing intense debate within the political circles in Delta Oshimili North about where the next commissioner from Oshimili North should come from. Those favourably disposed to someone from Ibusa making the cut argue that appointment to such lofty position must strictly be on merit not based on the village or area in the local Govt the person comes from.
But those against another political appointment from Ibusa opine that Ibusa already has its fair share of the State political spoils with Barrister Nwaoboshi as senator, Mrs Ajudua in the State Assembly and a principal officer, Dr. Austin Obidi the State PDP Auditor, Mr Austin Onianwa, Senior Special Adviser to Governor Okowa and Mr Chiejina Okafor the Local Govt PDP chairman. They are insisting then that in the spirit of equity and fair play the next commissioner should come from the North North axis of the Local Govt, which has the Ukala-Ukpuno born Louis Ndukwe, the current Local Govt chairman, as the only political office holder.
In a related development, Okowa’s original plan to appoint Mr Esewezie as one of his Senior Special Advisers is now dead in the water. Xclusive Magazine gathered on good authority that the Governor was forced to make a u-turn following our exclusive report on 13 July 2015 that he had prevailed on the State Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to discharge the murder case against Innocent Esewezie, Chief Fred Ajudua, Princess Ajudua and eleven other the murder suspects and to release Esewezie immediately from Ogwashi Uku prison where he was remanded after the first hearing of the murder case at Ibusa Magistrate Court, as he was being considered for a Senior Special Adviser position.
We understand that the Governor no longer considers Mr Esewezie a candidate for any position in his cabinet, although he still maintains very close relationship with him.

Jigawa to disburse 17,000 goats to widows- Governor Badaru

Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state has launched a goat breeding and rearing micro-credit program for widows in Gwaram Local Government of the state with no fewer than 220 widows benefitted.
Speaking at the launching of the program over the weekend in Gwaram, Governor Muhammad Badaru said the scheme which provides three goats (a male and two female) to a widow will be given to twenty beneficiaries in each of the 287 wards in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state, bringing the total of goats to be distributed to more than 17,000.
According to the governor, the duration of the loan is eighteen months after which all the beneficiaries will return the three goats given to them, added that every goat delivers every six months in twos, three or more.
His words:- “Therefore a beneficiary is sure of at least twelve kids at the end the 18 months term of the loan, more than five thousand widows will benefit yearly from the returns of the beneficiaries.”
The governor at the occasion presented the goats as sample to one of the beneficiaries, a blind widow Malama Binta Abdullahi,  said the scheme is part of his promise to create employment in the state and agriculture is the best means of job creation in a state where more than 80% of the people are involved in agricultural production.
The Governor also said there is a corn-stalk shredding and grinding machine to be provided for each ward. The loan beneficiaries will trade the manure of their goats with farmers who will give them corn stalk for grinding which is a by-products of their crops.
The grinded stalk will be used in feeding the goats that would be stationed at a place instead of roaming about losing their droppings. Their being kept at a place would also enhanced their sizes, productivity and enriched their droppings with urea from their urine, which improves soil fertility.

Breaking news: WAEC to withhold students’ results in 19 states over N4b debt

waec card
The West Africa Examinations Council, WAEC has threatened to withhold the results of students in 19 states that sat for the May/June 2015 WASSCE over nonpayment of candidates’ registration fees by their state governments.
Speaking at its national office Yaba, some hours ago, the Head of National Office, HNO, Mr Charles Eguridu said: “The affected states should off-set the registration fees of their candidates as soon as possible, as we cannot guarantee that the results of their candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE will be released alongside others.”
He said that a total number of 19 states in the country owe the Council in respect of entry fees for states government sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE noting that some States also still owe the Councils registration fees for the May/June 2014 WASSCE. According to him, the 19 states which are indebted to the tune of N4 billion were not making efforts to pay adding that efforts made by the Councils to get the money from them proved abortive, hence WAEC has resolved to make it public.
Eguridu who declined to mentioned names of the indebted states said, he is given them benefit of the debt, stressing that many of the governors have just assumed office. He however urged the indebted states to pay up within the next two weeks. His words: “Many of the states of the federation, as part of their education policy, pay the registration fees of candidates for the WASSCE, particularly in the public schools.
“This is quite commendable as it afforded many indigent students the opportunity to sit our examinations and relieved many poor parents of this financial burden. “As I speak to you now, we are cash-strapped as a result of the delay in off-setting the registration fees owed the Council by some states. As a result, we are finding it difficult in meeting our financial obligations, particularly to our supervisors, examiners and service providers.
“We have written to the affected states governments without any response. The poor response is threatening the smooth operations of the Council.”

Oliseh replies critics: Nigeria deserves only the best, not second division players

Sunday Oliseh

New Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh continues to show how his reign would be with his technological savvy as he took to YouTube to address concerns over his decision not to hand invitations to footballers who play outside of the first division in the major leagues across the world.
Oliseh’s comment during his unveiling in Abuja, a fortnight ago, divided opinions with many analysts and fans taking sides.
A couple of Goal writers had also criticized the decision that would block gifted players in lower divisions in Europe from featuring for the Super Eagles.
However, in a video blog on his website aptly called “Periodic update from the horse’s mouth on the Super Eagles’ evolution”, Oliseh explained that only the best players deserve to play for Nigeria and most of them ought to come from the top leagues where they face great competition and the best training.
“At the moment there has been a lot of talk as regards the fact that we have decided that first division players are the players that we found eligible to serve our country,” Oliseh said.
“We feel the best has to play for us and the best in any country play in the first division.
“Of course there could be some exceptions, we have players who are excellent in the second division but the basis of our decision is this: the best players in the first division are used to a certain level, tempo and competition standard because that is what the competition entails.
“And for that reason, we need the best that are used to playing at this tempo to serve and play for Nigeria.”
However, he gave exceptions to players who have excelled with the national youth teams as well as regular Super Eagles players whose teams may have been relegated and denied the opportunity to move to top division sides.
“A player who has excelled for Nigeria at top level, who has won titles for Nigeria and who we feel is at the top of his [career], if in the future due to no fault of his, his team falls down to the second level and his club refuses to sell him, keeping the player tied down, these are players that we have to look upon and decide the shape they are in and eventually may make exceptions to,” he continued.
“But at the moment, we stand firm because we feel that the best has to play for Nigeria.”
Oliseh expects that his team will soon take shape as Nigeria prepare to face Tanzania in their second game of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
“At the moment we are assembling a team, in fact we are trying to start from scratch and getting players that we feel are the best for the style we want to play,” the 40-year-old said.
“We have split our search into two phases: the phase of the home-based and the phase of the foreign-based ones.
“At the moment we have visited some players in their clubs, even watched them play and we have made contact with several of the potential players that we hope to assemble as we play our first qualifier versus Tanzania.
“We hope to start training in mid-August and then round it up before traveling to play Tanzania,” he concluded.

The Ghana international has signed a five-year deal at Villa Park to bolster the club's forward line following the sale of Christian Benteke earlier in july. Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of striker Jordan Ayew from Lorient for an undisclosed fee.

Villa have now confirmed the arrival of the 23-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal with the Midlands club after passing a medical on Monday, and manager Tim Sherwood believes he will adapt well to England.

He told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased to bring Jordan to the football club.
