Nigeria’s failure to win a medal at the just concluded IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China remains the talk of the moment for athletics enthusiasts. Yesterday renowned athletics coach, Toni Urhobo declared that Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s claim of injury to Blessing Okagbare was diversionary.
Urhobo said Okagbare bowed to pressure of competing at the big stage with the big girls of world athletics.
Okagbare despite running one of the fastest times in the season, failed to measure up in the women 100m. She placed 8th in the race won by Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce of Jamaica. Okagbare who vowed to bounce back in the 200m, made a no show and that caused a furore.
Defamation: Blogger gets N3m bail
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of N3m to a blogger, Seun Oloketuyi.He was arraigned by the police for allegedly publishing a defamatory story against the Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo.
Crash: Akpabio flown abroad for treatment
A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was on Tuesday afternoon flown out of Nigeria to receive medical attention abroad.
It was learnt that the senator, in company with about five of his aides, left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja aboard a regular private jet that he usually travels with.
Sources at the airport told our correspondent that Akpabio and his team arrived at the General Aviation Terminal, local wing, of the airport around 12.40pm.

Nigerian Woman Let Off £145,000 Bill after Birth of Quints in UK
A Nigerian woman identified as 37-year-old Bimbo Ayelabola has been let off by a National Health Service (NHS) Hospital after delivering quintuplets in Britain.
