Olivier Giroud ended his 12-game goal drought with a strike in each half, pouncing on a defensive error from Hull captain David Meyler four minutes before the interval before volleying home Theo Walcott's cross on 71 minutes.

Walcott then got in on the action, expertly converting Joel Campbell's through ball on 77 minutes before he sealed the victory with a fourth, lashing the ball past Eldin Jakupovic courtesy of a deflection off Alex Bruce in the final minute of the game

Victory for Arsenal sees them set up a home quarter-final tie with Watford and remain on course for a third consecutive FA Cup triumph, but it came at a price, with Per Mertesacker, Gabriel and Aaron Ramsey picking up injuries.

Defeat for Hull, meanwhile, sees them slip out of the FA Cup at the hands of the Gunners for the third season in succession, although they now have the chance to focus on their bid for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

Whether Arsenal's injured trio will be ready for Sunday's hastily-arranged last-eight clash with the Hornets is doubtful - unlike the result on Tuesday, which looked likely after Walcott steered home inside three minutes
