Nursing students arraigned for indecent assault on girl

Three students of the Edo State School of Nursing were on Wednesday arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate’s Court in Benin for assaulting a six-year-old girl.
The suspects, identified as Egbai Kenneth, 26; Paul Aghama, 22; and Osemwegie Jeffery, were arraigned on two counts bordering on indecent assault.
The police prosecutor, who was represented by Corporal Evborhuan Kingsley, from the Family Unit of the state police command, told the court that the accused committed the offence “between the months of March and May 2015,” on the premises of the school hostel on Sapele Road.
He said, “The suspects used their nails to penetrate the victim’s vagina and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo State.”
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. M. Adebanjo, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
Adebanjo added that the sureties must be Edo State civil servants of grade level nine and above.
The case was adjourned till November 20, 2015.
