The Spain international has been out for the past fortnight with an ankle injury but could be back in contention for next week's Champions League trip to Sevilla.
Right-back Pablo Zabaleta suffered medial ligament damage this week and is likely to be out until after the November international break. Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Fabian Delph are still sidelined.
Norwich will be without on-loan Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom (knee), with forward Dieumerci Mbokani also a doubt having missed the midweek League Cup defeat at Everton because of illness.
Midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu returned from pre-season foot surgery to play at Goodison Park, so may be involved in the squad again.
