Police summoned the Real Madrid striker to a police station in Versailles early on Wednesday.
The alleged plot concerns an attempt to blackmail another French international player with a sex-tape recorded on a mobile phone, according to the AFP news agency.
According to French sports media company L’Equipe, investigators wanted to establish whether a conversation between Benzema and the player at the beginning of October was Benzema offering advice to a friend, or was part of the plot.
Last month Djibril Cissé, the French footballer who once played for Liverpool, was questioned over the alleged blackmail attempt.
The investigation into the supposed incident was opened at the end of July.
