Kanye West is to be awarded the highest honour at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
The controversial rapper will receive the lifetime achievement award for his "ground-breaking videos, legendary performances and continued impact on music, art, fashion and culture".
West, 38, will be presented with the honour, known as the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard, during the ceremony on Sunday at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
The Yeezus star courted controversy at the 2009 ceremony when he invaded the stage and interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech after she had been awarded the best female video prize.
West launched into a rant about why Beyonce should have won, leaving a young Swift shell-shocked.
West, who is married to reality TV star Kim Kardashian, joins previous winners Madonna, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and The Rolling Stones.
Swift leads this year's award with nine nominations, while Ed Sheeran has six
