ARSENAL'S AKPOM JOINS HULL CITY ON SEASON LONG LOAN

Hull City have signed Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old featured in four of Arsenal's five pre-season fixtures and scored a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over a Singapore Select XI.

Akpom signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract in February before joining Nottingham Forest on loan for the remainder of the season.

The forward becomes the eighth player to be loaned out by Arsenal this summer after Wojciech Szczesny, Carl Jenkinson, Yaya Sanogo, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Daniel Crowley, Jon Toral and Isaac Hayden, who has also joined Hull for the new campaign.

Following Akpom's three goals against the Singapore Select XI last month, Arsene Wenger insisted that he had no plans to send the striker out on loan again.

"I sent him out on loan last year because I thought he needed that," said the Arsenal manager.

"But this season no, I plan to keep him with us. It's down to performance and attitude and he has the assets to be a big talent. And, after that, to be an efficient player week in week out, that's the target.

"So it's down to him. How much I don't know. It's encouragement to do well and work even harder. He’s a young player and it can lift confidence. The confidence you sense in the dressing room from other players is important as well."
