Arsenal fans are optimistic that their team could win the English Premier League title this season, following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat of Chelsea in the season-opening Community Shield game.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s lone goal lifted the spirits of many fans who finally witnessed the defeat of a Chelsea side led by Jose Mourinho.
While 46.6 per cent of those polled said that it was the time for the Gunners to win the EPL again, 42.5 per cent have doubts about the credibility of the Londoners.
A meagre 11 per cent declared outright that the Gunners could not win the title.
Some of the optimistic fans include Prince Harzeez Idrees, who wrote on Goal’s Facebook page that “Arsenal will win the EPL this season! Although the Community Shield is not guaranty us of winning it, but I believe in our team. We are Arsenal.”
Another optimistic comment came from Emmanuel Benjamin who is optimistic that Arsene Wenger’s boys have matured. “Yeah Arsenal squad you see today is much stronger than before. I represent GUNNERS,” he wrote.
Many other readers who feel Arsenal can’t win the title just yet also put forth their points.
Amos Gabi E wrote: “Nope! Winning the Community Shield trophy isn't enough reason to even think of them as prospective EPL winners come this season. We all know that top four is their main target. How can Arsenal win EPL title when the likes of Manchester United FC still exist in England?”
Olorunfemi Bernard said that “many forget that the major landmark for Arsenal in the EPL every season is a top four finish. Just leave them and their top four ambition and leave the EPL title fight between clubs that are competitive like Chelsea, United and Man City...I hail Arsenal the most entertaining club in England,”
