Redknapp: Liverpool offered Ancelotti the job first

Carlo Ancelotti was offered the chance of managing Liverpool before Jurgen Klopp's appointment last week, according to Harry Redknapp.

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Redknapp suggested the former Chelsea manager was Liverpool's first choice to replace Brendan Rodgers.

Klopp impressed during his first press conference at Anfield on Friday and many pundit and fans always saw him as the number one candidate following Rodgers' departure.

But this view may not have been shared by Reds' owners, Fenway Sports Group. Ex-Spurs manager Redknapp claims:

I have heard from good sources that he [Ancelotti] was offered the Liverpool job. I don't think [he wanted it]. They spoke to him at some stage.
