Akwa Ibom Creating 10,000 Jobs

Akwa Ibom State Government has begun the process of creating 10, 000 jobs aimed at reducing youths’ unemployment in the state by 50 percent in 4-5 years.

The process of generating the 10,000 jobs, which was initiated under the Akwa Ibom Enterprise and Employment Scheme, is to be completed within the first quarter of next year.
The scheme is designed to empower local businesses that can employ youths to earn a ware while undergoing practical enterprise skills development and hands-on training from growing businesses in the state.
Key objective of the job creation through the enterprise development programme and practical hands-on training is to develop youths entrepreneurs through a set of franchise schemes; and provide them world-class vocational skills training and high quality technical education.
Briefing newsmen in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital yesterday, the Special Adviser to the 
State Governor on Technical Matters, Mr. Ufot Ebong said “our vision is to establish Akwa Ibom as an enabling state, where anyone regardless of their economic background can generate an idea, start and grow their business as easily as possible”.
According to him, the programme is also designed to develop youths with character, innovation and competence; infusing in them dignity of labour, honour and integrity in life
He said, it is expected that at end of the exercise, the scheme will create the enabling
 structures needed to easily set up and grow their business thereby creating more job opportunities in the state.
