A BRAVE mum risked miscarriage FIVE times by allowing doctors to perform critical operations on her baby daughter when she was in the womb.
Despite only being given a life expectancy of 12 hours, Hope Davis survived the traumatic birth and is now 10 years old.
Doctors warned the parents that Hope would probably not survive the pregnancy, due to rare fetal condition, Non-Immune Hydrops Fatalis.
Luckily, crucial fetal thoracenteses operations saved her life.
Jen, 30, said: "All the procedures Hope underwent in utero were carried out under local anaesthetic and were extremely painful but I put my own fears to one side and did everything I could to help our baby girl."
Miraculously, just 10 days after birth, the proud parents were able to take their baby
home.
Although Hope survived against the odds, her condition has left her with a chest deformity which has made her prone to severe asthma and chest infections.
Even though Hope has to live with the condition, mum Jen says “she is literally always smiling, even when she’s poorly which is pretty often”.
After the first difficult birth, it took Jen and Gary eight years before they felt ready to try for another baby.
Heartbreakingly, even though it was unlikely Hope's rare condition would strike again, Jen lost 32-week-old baby Teddy to the same defect on September 7.
Caring Hope provided incredible support for her parents after the tragedy.
Jen said: "After losing Teddy, Hope got us through some really dark days by just being her".
She is also extremely grateful for the “fantastic” doctors and nurses from the Fetal Medicine Unit”.
