Senate asks Buhari to dissolve, reconstitute NDDC board

The Senate on Thursday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to reconstitute the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission.

The upper chamber said the new board should be committed to the pursuit of government objectives in the Niger Delta Region.
It also directed its committee on Niger Delta to carry out a holistic investigation into the activities of NDDC so far with a view to determining the level of its impact.
It equally tasked the committee to carry out a full audit of all development projects by NDDC and ascertain if what has been done is commensurate with the amount of money pumped into the commission.
Senator Mathew Uroghide (Edo South) who moved the motion expressed doubts if the huge amount of money given to NDDC has been judiciously used, noting that poverty has remained endemic in the region.
The Senate, has also in another resolution invited the Director General of the Nigerian Law School Olanrewaju Onadeko to address it on the incessant increase of tuition fee.
The upper chamber believes the over N300,000 tuition fee charged by the School is outrageous and unaffordable to the children of the downtrodden Nigerian masses.
Meanwhile the senators had resolved to hold national flags to the chamber at the joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday next week, where President Muhammadu Buhari will present the 2016 budget.
Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, who stated this at the end of plenary on Thursday, also explained that the senate had in the last six months passed two bills.
