NPFL Review: Champions Enyimba lose, MFM stun Nasarawa United

The 2015/2016 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), kicked off with champions Enyimba losing 1-0 to Rivers United in Port Harcourt.

Frederick Obomate’s 64th minute free kick, ensured the hosts recorded their second win against the Peoples Elephants in seven years.


Newcomers, MFM FC shocked Nasarawa United 1-0 at the Aper Aku Stadium in Markudi. Musa Newman and Chukwuka Emmanuel gave the debutants a two-goal lead, before Ifeanyi Nweke pulled one back.
Former champions Kano Pillars defeated Enugu Rangers 2-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Sunshine Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Akwa United, while Lobi Stars grabbed a 1-0 away victory at Shooting Stars.
Another newcomer Ikorodu United drew 1-1 with Abia Warriors, Wikki Tourists beat El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0 at the Karkanda Stadium, Heartland’s match with Warri Wolves ended goalless and FC IfeanyiUbah beat Giwa FC 1-0
