Atletico Madrid suffer shock defeat to Sporting Gijon

Barcelona moved a step closer to the Primera Division title as nearest challengers Atletico Madrid conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 at relegation-battling Sporting Gijon.

Antoine Griezmann curled in a first-half free kick from 25 yards which appeared set to give Los Rojiblancos a fifth successive league win but Antonio Sanabria and Carlos Castro scored in the final 11 minutes to earn Sporting a first win in nine that moved them out of the bottom three.
Griezmann was withdrawn with Diego Simeone’s side 1-0 up but Sanabria fired in a free kick of his own in the 79th minute to level the game.
And after Castro had somehow hit the crossbar from close range, he made amends from a similar opportunity in the 89th minute, this time sweeping home from Jony’s cross.
Atletico are eight points behind leaders Barcelona, who have played a game less, while third-placed Real Madrid could close to within a point on Sunday.
