After exiting the FA Cup on Sunday, Arsene Wenger is growing more frustrated with the media scrutiny over his position as manager at Arsenal and believes questions over his future are becoming a ‘farce’.
The Gunners’ recent form has been a huge concern to supporters who experience the same breakdown and collapse in form at the same stage of every season. Having happened almost every year for the past decade, it is easy to understand why some fans want rid of Wenger.
However, after facing more questions about his future on Sunday following their exit from the FA Cup, the Frenchman finally snapped and called the scrutiny a ‘farce’.
“The next game is always a big challenge and you are always in the middle of a drama,” Wenger said in his post-match press conference. “It is becoming a farce. We have lost a game. We are sad and we want to focus on the next game.
“Arsenal has lost games before in history and we will lose again in the future. We will stick together and cope with it and prepare for the next one with complete belief.”
Arsenal came into 2016 in good form and in great position in the league table, as they looked likely to go on and win the title. However, the Londoners threw away a five-point lead and now trail Leicester City by eight. Should the Foxes beat Newcastle United tonight, that gap will be much bigger, though the Gunners will have a game in hand to close it a little.
After losing in the FA Cup quarter-finals at home to Watford on Sunday, Arsenal now must travel to Spain knowing that they’re likely to be playing their final game in Europe this season too, with Barcelona leading 2-0 awaiting them at the Nou Camp.
With such a huge gap in the league from the leaders and an exit from all cup competitions likely this week, the pressure really is ramping up on Wenger, but he believes Sunday’s defeat was just one of many the club have and will
