According to today’s Sun, Real Madrid could offer Chelsea a swap deal to sign Eden Hazard, in exchange for Colombia international James Rodriguez.
In principle the deal makes a fair bit of sense as both players have underperformed for their respective clubs this season, and they could both do with a fresh start.
Moreover, Hazard continues to be linked with a switch to the Spanish giants, while few believe that James Rodriguez has much of a future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And yet there are plenty of reasons to believe the rumour will never come to fruition.
Crucially, there appears to be many moving parts surrounding the story, including the arrival of Antonio Conte at Chelsea, while it’s unclear whether Zinedine Zidane will be in charge of Real Madrid next season.
That being the case, while the story make for an attention grabbing headline, we doubt it’s got much substance in the long term.
