Islamic State publishes image of bomb 'which brought down Russian plane in Egypt

The photo shows a can of Schweppes Gold soft drink and what appeared to be a detonator and switch on a blue background.

In the latest edition of its 'Dabiq' magazine, released on Wednesday, IS also claimed:
  • it smuggled the improvised device onto the plane after exploiting a loophole at Sharm al-Sheikh airport
  • it originally planned on bringing down a Western plane over Sinai but changed its target after Russia launched airstrikes in Syria
  • that it had killed a Chinese and a Norwegian hostage, showing pictures of their bodies under the banner reading "executed"
All 224 people on board died when the Russian A321 airliner was destroyed mid-air on October 31.
Nearly all the victims were Russian nationals.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, vowed to hunt down those responsible after his security services confirmed that a "terrorist act" caused the atrocity.
