AIG rewards 8 policemen for gallantry

Mr Bala Hassan, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, on Tuesday rewarded eight policemen for their gallantry in arresting some suspected armed robbers on the Lagos – Benin Expressway.

Presenting certificates of commendation and N50,000 cash gifts to each of the gallant officers, the AIG said that the recognition was to inspire other policemen to perform better.
“This patrol team from Ogere Division engaged some gangs of robbers who had been terrorising road users along Lagos – Benin Expressway.
“On that fateful day, there was serious exchange of gun fire between the police and the robbers but the robbers were decimated.
Recoveries were made, AK-47 was also recovered and some of the robbers were shot dead.
Since that time we have not had any serious challenges on that particular highway,’’ he said.
The AIG pledged that police in the zone would intensify efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property of residents.
“We are also not going to rest; the Commissioner of Police in Ogun has been directed to intensify patrol in that area because as one gang is decimated another one may crop up.
We want to ensure visible policing even at night to make people safe on the roads,’’ he said.
He urged members of the public to always give useful information to the police to enable them curb crime in the zone.
“The gangs come around and block the roads because they know people are not helping the police with good information.
“We want information to get them arrested, however, we have intensified patrol in the area,’’ he said.
