Former Borno state governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, who has been accused of sponsoring Islamist sect, Boko Haram, has emerged the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Sheriff will take over from Uche Secondus who has been acting as chairman of the party that lost power to the All Progressives Congress in March 2015 after a general election.
Secondus took over from Adamu Mu’azu who was the national chairman of the PDP.
Modu Sheriff beat Wilberforce Juta and others to emerge as acting national chairman.
Members of the Board of Trustees of the party are currently holding a meeting in Abuja to discuss whether to accent the former governor to lead the party.
PDP governors were reported to be in attendance.
