World leaders gather in Paris ahead of COP 21 climate talks

World leaders are gathering in Paris for the start of crucial talks on climate change.

The COP 21 talks are set to begin on Monday, a day after more than half a million people marched in demonstrations worldwide calling for urgent action to curb rising temperatures.
After decades of struggling negotiations marked by the failure of a previous summit in Copenhagen six years ago, both activists and delegates in Paris are holding out for some form of landmark Prime Minister David Cameron will join the Prince of Wales and world leaders for the first day of the negotiations.

The prime minister will call for a robust deal that shows governments are serious about cutting carbon, although his own government has come in for criticism at home for curbing support for renewables and energy efficiency measures.
Prince Charles is to give a key note speech to delegates, before going on to receive the Prix Francois Rabelais from the Institut de France, for his commitment to organic farming and protection of the environment.
The Paris conference kicks off amid tight security in the French capital in the wake of the terror attacks there that left 130 people dead.
Barack Obama will be among those present at the talks.
The US president flew in to Paris on Sunday night ahead of the conference and visited the Bataclan, where he paid tribute, alongside his French counterpart Francois Hollande, to the victims of the Paris attacks.
