26-year-old man arraigned over alleged theft of ATM cards, phones

A 26-year-old man, Lukmon Muhammed, was Wednesday arraigned in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos over alleged theft of two Automated Teller Machine, ATM cards and two phones valued at N25, 000, belonging to one Miss Stella Abube.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Odigbe, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on September 7 at about 10:30p.m. at Akin Bus stop in Eti- Osa Local Government Area of the state.
Odigbe said the accused attacked Abube on her way from work and collected her purse containing her Diamond and Guarantee Trust Bank ATM cards as well as the two phones valued at N25, 000.
According to the prosecutor, the accused, of no fixed address and occupation was apprehended when he came to use Abube’s GTB ATM card in the supermarket she works.
“Muhammed wanted to pay for the items he bought using the POS with the ATM cards on Abube’s counter.
“After several tries of incorrect codes, she suspected foul play and tried her own code and it could access the ATM; she then raised the alarm.

“The offence contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011,” the prosecutor noted.
The accused who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, pleaded guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr L.A. Owolabi granted the accused bail in the sum of N10, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 29, 2016, for mention.
