A businessman who said he got a dream in 1997 to build a giant statue of Jesus is set to unveil it on New Year’s Day.
The oil and gas magnate, Obinna Onuoha, said he had completed work on a giant marble statue of Jesus, to be called “Jesus de Greatest”, that is 28-foot tall, stating that it would be the tallest in Africa once unveiled.
The statue, which weighs a massive 40 tons, has been constructed on the premises of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in the village of Abajah, Imo State.
Onuoha himself built the church where the statue would be located, in fulfilment of a promise he made to God a few years back when his 68-year-old mother was ill.
He said he promised to build a church if God would spare his mother’s life.
The 43-year-old said he had also contacted the police to ensure that the statue is not vandalised when completed.About 1,000 persons are expected to grace the unveiling ceremony of the status.
