Andy Murray crashes out of US Open in fourth round

Andy Murray has been knocked out of the US Open by big-serving South African Kevin Anderson in four sets.Anderson, the 15th seed, played brilliantly to secure a 7-6 (7/5), 6-3, 6-7 (2/7), 7-6 (7/0) victory at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York.

It is the first time in 19 major tournaments that Murray has failed to make the quarter final stages.

Shortly earlier another British hopeful, Johanna Konta, saw her fairytale run in the tournament come to an end at the hands of Petra Kvitova.

The 24-year-old British number two had surprised many by reaching a grand slam last-16 for the first time, but lost to the two-time Wimbledon champion 7-5, 6-3.
