Dickson Gets Certificate of Return

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Seriake Dickson, Thursday received his Certificate of Return as governor-elect for second term from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The elated governor, after receiving the certificate, told Bayelsans that by their singular vote, they have saved democracy in Nigeria, adding that their overwhelming support made a statement that Nigeria could not afford to be a one party state.
He expressed optimism that the concept of one man, one vote, would flourish in Nigeria and the state.

Dickson commended INEC, security operatives and all other stakeholders for seeing to the success of the elections in the state.
The excited governor admitted that his victory at the governorship election did not come easy, and therefore dedicated his victory to God and the people of the state.

“I am delighted to be elected your governor once again. We give God the glory for the victory. If God was not with us, you can imagine what would have happened.

“We dedicate this certificate of return to God. This is once again evidence that power only comes from God. Some people trusted in their chariots and horses, but we trust in God.

“This victory is also dedicated to the Bayelsa people, who defied intimidation, harassment and violence unleashed on them to return us.”
Earlier, the Certificate of Return was presented to him and his deputy, Vice Admiral John Jonah (rtd), by the Supervising National Commissioner, South-south, Mr. Mustapha Leki, who said the instrument was handed over to them following their victory at the governorship election.
Leki said the presentation was carried out in conformity with Section 68 (1) and Section 75 (1) of the Electoral Act.
“I am here today to present this certificate of return to the governor-elect. In the state governorship election, Dickson was declared winner and accordingly returned.
