Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Chief Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri, has said that he is in the race for the 2016 governorship election in Edo State because nothing has changed in the standard of living of the people of the state.
Edebiri, who spoke with journalists in Benin said: “If things have changed for the better since the last time I contested, I would have looked for other ways to contribute my quota to the state”.
He said that he hopes to create a state where industrialization will be the order of the day as a way of reducing poverty, adding: “I am wishing to change the way people do things and make the masses feel the impact of development.
“I am contesting to make effective social services, health care, education, valid infrastructures, security of lives and property and others available to the people of my state”, he said.
On whether he stands a chance of getting the PDP ticket in view of the complex political process preceding previous primaries, he said that with the transformation going on in the party, he is quite sure the best candidate will emerge without any interference from leaders.
“I tell you, the leaders of our party have learnt their lessons. They cannot afford to mess up this time. The leaders know that if the process is wrong, the result may be unfavourable.
“If the right person emerges, I can assure you that PDP will produce the next governor of Edo State. But if the wrong person is forced on the party as candidate, I am afraid we may remain in opposition after the election”, he said.
He assured that if given the ticket, the electorate, whom he said have been yearning for him will vote him enmasse at the governorship elections.
