Robbery soars on Abuja roads

For most residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), “one chance” has become the general term used to refer to situations where unscrupulous elements operating in unpainted taxis or private vehicles dispossess unsuspecting passengers of valuable items.

Though there was a reduction in the incident few months back but in recent times because of the harsh economic conditions, there has been increase in the incident is gradually creeping back However, the perpetrators are now applying new and more deadly ways in their operations Narrating her ordeal to Inside FCT, Deborah Oche who came to Abuja to process her visa application at one of the embassies, said when she arrived in the city, she flagged down a neat taxi  to take her to where the embassy was located.
Identified a clean looking taxi with a seemingly responsible driver. Oche said she had made up her mind to engage the driver of the taxi whom she assumed was responsible person to take her everywhere she had to go him during the period of her stay However, Oche said that unknown to her, the taxi driver had sinister plans to disrupt her movement and dispossess her of valuable items. According to the

driver, she was in utter confusion as she noticed that the driver took shot glances at her from the rear view mirror while his accomplices stripped her bare of everything she had including money, international passport, jewelries, phones and other personal effects.
A resident of the FCT who also fell victim to the antics of the perpetrators of “one chance”, Ezeachi Ugona, said that the taxi driver dared to play a fast one on her “I chartered a taxi to take me from Maitama junction to Zuba. Just as we approached Ministers Hill, I noticed that the driver was going to take a swing at me. “In a split second, I blocked it and held on to his hand as the object fell off.
