University strips Trump of honorary degree

A Scottish university has stripped US Republican presidential contender Donald Trump of his honorary degree amid a storm of controversy over some of his comments.

Trump, who recently called for Muslims to be banned from entering the US, had been awarded the doctorate of business administration in October 2010 by Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, in recognition of his "achievements as an entrepreneur and businessman".
But, in a statement, the university said it was now taking the award back.
In the course of the current US election campaign, Mr Trump has made a number of statements that are wholly incompatible with the ethos and values of the university.
The university has therefore decided to revoke its award of the honorary degree.

It comes after Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon stripped Mr Trump of his status as a business ambassador for Scotland with the GlobalScot network.
