Photo-based social media site Instagram has burst through the 400 million members landmark, after some 100m users signed up in the past nine months.
The California-based firm - which was snapped up by Facebook in 2012 for $1 billion (£669m) - said it was "thrilled" by the milestone, and said the figure had seemed like a "dream" when it launched almost five years ago.
The most followed account on Instagram is Instagram itself, with more than 100 million people following its updates, which often include images from the news, as well as inspirational quotes and messages.
The most-followed individual on the site is Taylor Swift, who has racked up an impressive 47.7m followers.
She has overtaken Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé - who both previously dominated the most-followed title - in recent months.
Currently, Kim has the edge, boasting 46.8m followers to Beyoncé's 46.1m. Kim's relatives also dominate the top 10 list.

Kendall Jenner's image of herself lying down in a very wedding-looking white lace dress, her hair carefully arranged in heart shapes, has clocked up a staggering 3.1m 'likes' since being posted 17 weeks ago - an average of 18 likes every minute between then and now.
With the artfully-arranged image, she overtook her older sister Kim, whose wedding snap with Kanye West has now been relegated further down the list, with a mere 2.4m likes.
Instagram - a mix of the words 'instant' and 'telegram' - was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, launching in October 2010.
It rapidly gained popularity and reached its first 100m active users by April 2012, prompting the billion-dollar buy-out by Facebook.
Of the 100m people who have joined since December last year, Instagram said 75 per cent came from outside the US - with Brazil, Japan and Indonesia contributing the most new Instagrammers.
