As Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Sultan of Sokoto and president-general of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the true teachings of their religions
The Sultan, in a statement signed by the NSCIA scribe, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan yesterday, prayed that God would continue to grant the Christians more peace, understanding, wisdom and more faithfulness in the true teachings of God, so that they may live by the example of Jesus Christ.

“Whilst we understand the indignation, frustration and disappointments occasioned by the long list of unfulfilled promises and dashed expectations under the current regime (and justifiably so), we urge that Nigerians should not recourse to hauling insults on the President as such would not bring the succour they seek.
“The challenges we face today as a nation should not make us lose our dignity and demureness as a people. They should not make us miss the essence and meanings of Eid-El-Maulud and Christmas and the divine succour they bring, especially the assurance that there is always an end to every negative situation.
He noted that at this time last year, Nigeria was under a lot of tension with the national conscience being tormented by the apocalyptic prediction of 2015 being the end of our corporate existence.
“Now that the year is ending and we remain united, it is as if God wants us to learn through the coincidence of the birth of our revered Prophets, Jesus and Muhammad. As you traditionally celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25, Muslims mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad on December 24, this year being the 12th day Rabiu Awwal,” he said.
He explained that the message inherent in this year’s coincidence appears to be unity and mutual understanding, adding that the season of double celebration is an opportunity for Nigerians to learn more about the two religious personages and rededicate themselves to their true teachings.
