RITA ORA shocked the music world last week by going to war with her boss JAY Z in a ferocious legal battle.
But I can reveal that her decision to sue his record label Roc Nation was actually sparked by her feud with another superstar Rihanna
Music insiders claim the Bajan star used her influence to ensure Rita’s career was not treated as a priority by Roc Nation, who she is also signed to.
The tipping point came when the X Factor judge discovered Rihanna was being given first choice on hit songs that she could have taken for her yet-to-be-released second album. As a result, Rita is now fighting Jay Z and Roc Nation in court to try to get herself released from her contract with the firm.
A source said: “Rihanna has never liked Rita and has been using her power at Roc Nation accordingly.
“This is the main reason the label’s execs have been uninterested in putting effort into promoting Rita.
“Songs that might be submitted to her are automatically given to Rihanna, who may then hold them for months before deciding she doesn’t want them.
“The fact that Rita’s ex Calvin Harris is on their management books hasn’t helped either. He is one of their highest earners and they did nothing to stop him when he blocked Rita from using songs that he had written on her album.”
Rita signed to Roc Nation in 2008, two days after flying out to meet Jay Z in New York. But she has grown frustrated that she has only released one album, despite being on their books for seven years.
In papers filed to LA’s Superior Court last week she described her relationship with the label as “irrevocably damaged”.
The fact that Rihanna is the reason behind Rita’s anger is hardly surprising.
They have a long-running rivalry which I have tracked from day one.
Back in May I revealed how RiRi had banned Rita from her Met Gala after-party at New York club Up & Down.
I also told how she was furious at discovering Rita had shot a highly sexual music video with her disgraced ex Chris for their single Body On Me this summer.
The Roc Nation Christmas party will be a lively affair this year.
