One person dead in Istanbul Airport explosion

ONE person was killed and another seriously injured in an explosion on a plane at Istanbul Airport.

The blast occurred where aeroplanes were parked at the airport where two airport cleaning staff were caught up in the explosion.
Police have denied social media rumours that a "mortar attack" was responsible for causing the blast.
Pegasus Airlines said in a written statement: "Of the airport cleaning staff, Canan Çelik Burgucu, 33, suffered an injury to her hand and Zehra Yamaç, 30, to her head."
Yamac was reportedly in a critical condition and then succumbed to her injuries.
No passengers were in the area when the explosion occurred and the airport has said normal operations would continue.
Armed police are investigating the blast to determine its cause.
Following the explosion, cops armed with rifles and wearing protective vests arrived at the scene.
Pegasus Airlines say the blast occurred moments after midnight GMT.
An extensive investigation is currently underway into the incident and security measures have been increased around the airport.
