London student dies after falling back off treadmill

An inquest has heard that a London student hit his head and died after falling off a treadmill.

23 year-old Kamrul Hassan was working out at the gym at the Small Heath Leisure Centre in Birmingham in August. The coroner said he was not wearing a safety wire when the accident happened.
I have watched the CCTV footage and it shows Mr Hassan falling back, almost in a vertical position and hitting his head.
– LOUISE HULL, CORONER
This was a terrible accident at one of our gyms and the coroner is right to think about how a similar accident could be avoided in the future. The vast majority of our treadmills are fitted with emergency cords and all have emergency buttons, however we will consider the issue of signage at our gyms and discuss the issue with UK Active, the national fitness body, to see how they want to take this forward.
